Hi my name is Gayle and i belong to the line dancing group of Donna's Downhome Dancers of Grand Bank, Newfoundland Canada. We started our group back in September of 1996. I volunteer at a youth centre here and i seen the teens doing Boot Scootin Boogie and though what an idea to earn some income for the youth centre by getting a class together for the adults to lear line dancing and i got in contact with Donna Mathews to teach the class. Well we had 70 people for the first class we had and we had to break them up into different groups as the year went buy.
Now we have 6 Adult classes. Two beginner classes, two intermediat and two advanced classes. We also have one class for the teens. We have a three week break at Christmas and a one week break at Easter and during the summer we keep one practice class going one night a week.

We love to travel and have been to of all places Europe. OK OK so i am lieing a bit..but we did go to Europe. So what if it is only an hours ferry ride from here. Our first official preformance was to St. Pierre & Miquelon on July 4, 1997
which are islands that belong to France just off the coast of Newfoundland. We were invited to preform at a club over there and what an experience that was. I didn't go myself but in future i will get Donna to do up a write up for that and then include it in an update of this page..Here is the newspaper account of the trip....On July 4, 1997 Donna's Downhome Dancers departed from Fortune, Newfoundland to St. Pierre & Miquelon, France, to give a demonstration of Country Line Dancing, which has become popular across Canada. The Dancers performed their show at Discotheque Le Joinville on the 4th of July at 10:30 pm. The show lasted for approximately 1 & 1/2 hours which consisted of 16 dances -- 8 dances for per set for two sets. The people of St. Peirre really enjoyed the show. Some of the audience even joined in with the Dancers and tried their best to learn line dancing.
The clubs owner, Mr. Dominic Guerin, was very pleased with the first show of its kind, and extended an invitation for the dancers to return in September of this year.
Mrs. Donna Matthews, the instructor of the group was pleased to say "the show was a complete success and they are all looking forward to their return."
In the meantime, the dancers continue to dance on the Burin Peninsula for events such as Come Home Year at Centeninal Park in Grand Bank.
This year we are planing on going back to St. Pierre & Miquelon. Also on
March 28th of this year(1998) our group went up to Terrenceville, Newfoundland to perform in the Waterfall club . This was about a 1 1/2 hour drive for us and we went up in 4 cars. We had a great time and Donna and i are planning on going back up there one weekend in May to teach them some line dances. Also on April 16th Donna and i are heading over to Moncton New Brunswick for a Line Dancing Workshop and sometime in the near future we would like to hold a workshop here in Grand Bank. Planning on taking my camera and taking lots of pictures.
